Alfa Romeo 75 Spare Parts (Type 162B, 1985 to 1992)

The Alfa Romeo 75 holds a special status among Alfisti. As the last mass produced Alfa Romeo saloon with the classic transaxle layout and rear wheel drive before the arrival of the new Giulia Type 952 in 2016, many consider it the last true Alfa Romeo from purely independent development before the takeover by Fiat in 1986. Its name honours the seventy fifth anniversary of the brand in 1985. Between 1985 and 1992 nearly 390,000 examples were built at the historic Arese plant. Our range covers original spare parts and carefully selected reproductions for all engine variants and model years.

The History of the Alfa Romeo 75

In May 1985 Alfa Romeo introduced the 75 as successor to the Giulietta. Its distinctive body, designed by Ermanno Cressoni at the Centro Stile with high tail and sharp creases, still shared the cabin and doors with the Giulietta but presented a completely new front and rear. In the United States the car was sold from 1986 to 1989 under the name Alfa Romeo Milano. The technology of the 75 later also provided the basis for the SZ and RZ sports cars. Production ended in 1992 with the launch of the Alfa Romeo 155.

Transaxle Layout, De Dion Axle and Twin Spark

Like the Alfetta and Giulietta before it, the 75 used the classic transaxle drivetrain. The engine sat at the front, with the clutch, five speed gearbox and differential mounted directly at the rear axle. A two piece propshaft with rubber damped flex discs transmitted the rotation. The result was a nearly balanced weight distribution of around 50 to 50. The rear De Dion axle with inboard brake discs and the torsion bar suspension at the front rounded off the technical concept. In 1987 Alfa Romeo introduced with the 2.0 Twin Spark variable valve timing in a production engine for the first time, together with the eponymous twin ignition with two spark plugs per cylinder.
