Alfa Romeo 166 Spare Parts (Type 936, 1998 to 2007)
With the 166 Alfa Romeo continued the upper midsize saloon tradition in late 1998 and replaced the 164 as the brand's flagship. The car was designed by Centro Stile Alfa Romeo under the leadership of Walter de Silva, with the 2003 facelift penned by Daniele Gaglione. Until June 2007 just under 100,000 examples were built at the Rivalta plant near Turin and from 2003 at Mirafiori. With the discontinuation of the 166 the tradition of the large Alfa Romeo saloon paused for many years. Our range covers original spare parts and carefully selected reproductions for all three series and every engine variant.
The History of the Alfa Romeo 166
The 166 made its debut in Madrid in September 1998, went on sale in Italy in October and was officially presented to the public at the Paris Motor Show the same month. The 166 is based on the substantially reworked floorpan of the 164 and introduced a double wishbone front suspension. At the rear a multilink axle on an aluminium casting replaced the Camuffo axle of the 164. A technical innovation were the rear indicators in which Alfa Romeo fitted light emitting diodes instead of bulbs as early as 1998, a unique solution on the market at that time. In October 2000 a first update brought Euro 3 engines and OBD2 diagnostics, in September 2003 the facelift gave the car the large family Scudetto shared with 156, 147 and Spider, along with a revised front and rear. Production ended in June 2007 with no direct successor.

Three Series Overview
Technically three generations can be distinguished. The first series ran from autumn 1998 to autumn 2000 and is recognisable by its narrow headlights, smaller Scudetto and dashboard with separate displays. The second series from autumn 2000 brought Euro 3 engines, OBD2 diagnostics and the improved G3 navigation system. The third series from September 2003 received the large family Scudetto, new front headlights, revised rear and updated interior.
Body and Technology
The 166 measures 4.72 metres long, 1.82 metres wide and weighs about 1.5 tonnes, moderate for its class. The fully galvanised body uses high strength steel in the passenger cell and side impact zones. Top versions offered xenon headlamps, GSM telephone and integrated navigation. Transmissions were five and six speed manual gearboxes as well as a four speed ZF automatic, joined by a five speed Aisin torque converter automatic from the facelift onwards.
