GTV/Spider (916)

Alfa Romeo GTV and Spider Spare Parts (Type 916, 1994 to 2005)

With the GTV coupé and the open Spider Alfa Romeo revived its great sports car tradition in the mid 1990s. Both models were designed by Enrico Fumia at Pininfarina, who had previously created the Alfa Romeo 164. The distinctive body design with its side notch, wedge profile and unmistakable rear light band picked up key elements of the Proteo show car presented in Geneva in 1991. A total of around 41,700 GTV coupés and 39,000 Spider roadsters were built. Our range covers original spare parts and carefully selected reproductions for both body styles and all phases of model updates.

The History of the GTV and Spider

Enrico Fumia's first sketches date back to 1987, in July 1988 Fiat CEO Vittorio Ghidella approved the full size clay models. The GTV was launched in March 1994 at the Geneva Motor Show, with series production starting in September of the same year at the Arese plant, the Spider followed in 1995. The GTV name deliberately revived the tradition of the Alfetta GTV coupé, while the Spider became the successor of the thirty year old Giulia Spider Duetto. In summer 1998 both models received a discreet facelift with aluminium look dashboard and chrome trim on the Scudetto. From 2000 production was moved from Arese to Pininfarina in San Giorgio Canavese near Turin. In spring 2003 Phase 3 arrived with revised front in the 147 family style and chrome grille. GTV production ended in late 2004, while the Spider continued until 2005. The successors of both models were the Alfa Romeo Brera and Spider Type 939.

Body and Technology

The platform is based on the Tipo Due floorpan, combining the front axle of the Alfa 155 with a completely new multilink rear axle. The GTV is stiffer and tuned slightly sportier than the Spider thanks to its closed body. The drag coefficient is 0.33 for the coupé and 0.38 for the roadster. The Spider's top is a manually or electrically operated fabric soft top, covered with a hard lid when stowed, giving the car a particularly clean wedge profile.
