Alfa Romeo 159 Spare Parts (Type 939, 2005 to 2011)

With the Alfa Romeo 159 the brand took on the premium midsize class in 2005 against the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4. The body design was created by Giorgetto Giugiaro in cooperation with Centro Stile Alfa Romeo and picks up elements of the Brera concept from 2002. The distinctive front with the traditional V Scudetto and the three cylindrical headlight clusters per side, the high waistline and the sharply cut fenders define the car. Between September 2005 and November 2011 a total of 247,661 examples were built at the Pomigliano d'Arco plant, as four door saloon and from March 2006 as practical Sportwagon estate. Our range covers original spare parts and carefully selected reproductions for all body and engine variants, including the Q4 all wheel drive versions.

The History of the Alfa Romeo 159

The 159 was developed during the period of the GM and Fiat joint venture and shares its dedicated premium platform with the Brera and Spider. The model name pays tribute to the Tipo 159 of 1951, the Formula 1 car in which Juan Manuel Fangio won the world championship. The saloon made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2005, the Sportwagon estate followed in spring 2006 and was voted the most beautiful car in the world in its class by Auto Bild the same year. In 2006 the 159 also finished third in the European Car of the Year award. Production ended in October and November 2011, while the direct successor Giulia Type 952 only arrived on the market in 2016.

Platform, Q4 All Wheel Drive and Engine Mix

The 159 is based on the premium platform jointly developed by Fiat and GM. Unlike its predecessor 156, which only offered all wheel drive in the Sportwagon, the 159 was also available as a saloon with all wheel drive. The Q4 system uses a Torsen Type C double differential and was reserved for the 3.2 V6 24V petrol and the 2.4 JTDm diesel. The diesel engines came from the Fiat group, the original naturally aspirated petrol engines were based on GM designs with newly developed direct injection cylinder heads, and later Alfa Romeo added its own turbocharged four cylinders from the Fiat group. The 3.2 V6 came from Holden in Australia.

The Engine Variants Overview

  • 159 1.8 MPI 16V (2007 to 2011), 140 hp four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol

Body Variants and Transmission

The 159 was available as a four door saloon and from spring 2006 as a Sportwagon estate. Both variants share platform, front section and all components forward of the B pillar. Standard transmissions were six speed manuals, with a five speed manual on the 1.8 MPI. For the 1.9 JTDm, 2.4 JTDm and 3.2 V6 the Q Tronic six speed automatic gearbox by Aisin AW was also available.
