Giulietta (116)

Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spare Parts (Type 116, 1977 to 1985)

The Alfa Romeo Giulietta Type 116 is one of the most distinctive midsize saloons of its time. Introduced in November 1977 as successor to the Giulia (105), it took over the historic name but broke with tradition stylistically. Under the lead of Ermanno Cressoni, the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo created a sharply drawn wedge shape with a short flat front, rising waistline and high tail with integrated spoiler. Technically the Giulietta shared its platform and drivetrain with the Alfetta. The model was built at the Arese plant until the end of 1985 and was then replaced by the Alfa Romeo 75. Our range covers original spare parts and carefully selected reproductions for all engine variants.

The History of the Giulietta 116

After a twelve year gap from the original Giulietta of 1954, Alfa Romeo revived the name in 1977 for a completely new series. Ermanno Cressoni's design was ahead of its time. The tall rear with integrated spoiler initially divided opinions but established itself a few years later at many other manufacturers for aerodynamic reasons. In summer 1981 the Giulietta received its first facelift with plastic cladding on the lower body, a new steering wheel, new seats and a revised dashboard. In 1983 another update followed with reworked grille and bumpers.

Transaxle Layout and De Dion Axle

As with the Alfetta, the engine sat at the front, the five speed gearbox together with the clutch and differential at the rear axle. This transaxle layout ensured a nearly balanced weight distribution of around 50 to 50. The rear De Dion axle and the inboard rear brake discs made the Giulietta one of the most dynamic saloons of its segment and shaped its reputation as an outstanding driver's car.

The Engine Variants Overview

  • Giulietta 1.3 (1977 to 1985), 1357 cc Twin Cam four cylinder as the entry engine
  • Giulietta 1.6 (1977 to 1985), 1570 cc Twin Cam four cylinder
  • Giulietta 1.8 (1979 to 1983), 1779 cc Twin Cam four cylinder
  • Giulietta 2.0 (1979 to 1985), 1962 cc Twin Cam four cylinder, later continued as 2.0 Ti
  • Giulietta 2.0 Turbodiesel (1983 to 1985), 1995 cc VM four cylinder turbo diesel with 82 hp

Giulietta Turbodelta as Special Edition

The flagship of the series was the Giulietta 2.0 Turbodelta, also known as Turbo Autodelta. Alfa Romeo's racing department Autodelta fitted the standard two litre four cylinder with a KKK turbocharger and two double barrel Weber carburettors. The result was 170 hp at 125 kW. The model was built for homologation in Group 4 motorsport but only in a production run of 361 units, all delivered in black paint with red interior. The Turbodelta today ranks among the most sought after collectibles of the brand.
