33 (905/7)
Alfa Romeo 33 Spare Parts (Type 905 and 907, 1983 to 1995)
The Alfa Romeo 33 is one of the best selling model families of the brand. Introduced as successor to the Alfasud in June 1983, it took over the floorpan and the rev happy four cylinder boxer engine of its predecessor but presented a completely new body designed at the Centro Stile Alfa Romeo under Ermanno Cressoni. Between 1983 and 1995 around 989,000 saloons and estates were built at Pomigliano d'Arco and at Pininfarina in Grugliasco. Our range covers original spare parts and carefully selected reproductions for both the first 905 series and the second 907 series built from 1990 onwards.
The History of the Alfa Romeo 33
In September 1983 the 33 made its debut as a five door hatchback at the IAA Frankfurt. From January 1984 the estate version, marketed as Giardinetta and later renamed Sport Wagon, completed the range. It was built by Pininfarina at the Grugliasco plant. In autumn 1986 the series received a first facelift along with the flagship 1.7 litre boxer engine producing 118 hp, accompanied by a 1.8 litre three cylinder turbo diesel from VM Motori reserved for the Italian home market. In January 1990 the second series, the Nuova 33 (Type 907), replaced the first one. It featured a completely revised front and rear in the new family look established by the Alfa Romeo 164, a modernised interior, fuel injection and the 16 valve version of the 1.7 litre boxer with 137 hp.
The Boxer Engine and the Drivetrain
As with the Alfasud, the water cooled four cylinder boxer with overhead camshafts per cylinder bank and toothed belt drive remained in use. The originally inboard mounted front brake discs of the Alfasud were however discarded in favour of a simplified setup at the wheel hubs. The 33 was optionally available as Permanent 4 with all wheel drive, renamed Q4 from 1992.
