Brera/Spider (939)
Alfa Romeo Brera and Spider Spare Parts (Type 939, 2005 to 2010)
With the Brera coupé and the open Spider, Alfa Romeo revived the tradition of the sporting Milanese two door cars between 2005 and 2010. Both models use the GM Fiat Premium platform of the Alfa Romeo 159 and were built by Pininfarina at the San Giorgio Canavese plant near Turin. A total of 21,786 Brera coupés and 12,488 Spider roadsters were produced. Our range covers original spare parts and carefully selected reproductions for both body styles and all engine variants, including the Q4 all wheel drive versions.
The History of the Brera and Spider
The Brera evolved from the concept of the same name presented by Giorgetto Giugiaro at the Geneva Motor Show in 2002. Three years later the production version made its debut, also in Geneva, retaining the distinctive front with three cylindrical headlight clusters per side, the traditional V Scudetto and the coupé silhouette almost unchanged. The Brera shares more than half of its components with the Alfa Romeo 159. From the B pillar rearwards the body is unique. In spring 2006 the Brera Spider, a proper two seat roadster with fabric roof, joined the range. Its rear section was designed by Pininfarina itself, giving the open version an even more elegant profile than the coupé. In 2008 both models received a facelift with revised chassis, new steering and suspension components and reduced kerb weight. Production ended in November 2010, with remaining stock delivered into 2011.
Body and Technology
The GM Fiat Premium platform allowed both front and all wheel drive. The Q4 all wheel drive system with central Torsen Type C differential was available for the 3.2 V6 and the strongest diesels and added weight but significantly improved traction. As on the Alfa 159, the diesel engines came from the Fiat group, the naturally aspirated petrols were based on GM designs with dedicated direct injection cylinder heads, and the 1.75 TBi turbo petrol was added at the 2009 facelift from the Fiat group. The 3.2 V6 came from Holden in Australia.
The Engine Variants Overview
- Brera and Spider 2.2 JTS 16V (2005 to 2010), 185 hp four cylinder with direct injection
- Brera and Spider 1.75 TBi (from 2009), 200 hp four cylinder turbo petrol from the Fiat group
- Brera and Spider 3.2 JTS V6 24V (2005 to 2010), Holden V6 with 260 hp, with front or Q4 all wheel drive
- Brera and Spider 2.0 JTDm 16V (from 2008), four cylinder Multijet turbo diesel with 170 hp
- Brera and Spider 2.4 JTDm 20V (2006 to 2010), five cylinder Multijet turbo diesel with 200, later 210 hp
Brera Coupé and Spider Roadster Compared
The Brera coupé features a panoramic glass roof, a pronounced coupé silhouette and 2+2 seating. On the Spider the glass roof gave way to a classic manually or electrically operated fabric top and the car was designed as a pure two seater. Both models measure about 4.40 metres long, 1.83 metres wide and weigh between 1,490 and 1,690 kilograms. With the 2008 facelift 25 kilograms were saved and the chassis was tuned more precisely.
